How To Consign

  • No Appointment Necessary during regular business hours. (You may, however, call (919-909-9774) ahead if you like)
  • Earnings Guide is listed below.
  • We will consider clothing, jewelry, handbags, shoes, home decor and pet items.  See Designers We Accept for a list of brands we accept and offer for consignment and sale.  
  • Each item will be examined thoroughly to ensure it is of the best quality.  Therefore, please make sure there are no odors, stains, discolorations, marks, holes, rips, tears, pilling, etc.
  • For luxury designer items such as Channel, Louis Vuitton, etc., we will run through an authenticator first.
  • We do consider TRUE vintage pieces.
  • Please make sure items are freshly laundered, wrinkle free and in like-new or new-with-tags condition.
  • Please bring all hanging items on a hanger - we will give it back to you before you leave.
  • Once an item(s) is/are selected for consignment, a contract will be signed.
  • You may be offered a Buy Now price for some or all of your items instead of consigning.  However, you will always have the option to consign instead.
  • Pink Canary pricing is based on value, style, condition as well as other market factors and is solely at the discretion and responsibility of Pink Canary.

What We Sell

At Pink Canary, we are first and foremost a women’s clothing and accessory resale boutique specializing in luxury designer brands. Our mission is to counter the wastefulness of fast fashion and revive the elegant practice of slow fashion — the art of in-person shopping thoughtfully, curating with intention, and building a wardrobe that endures.

While we always carry the most sought-after names, our true focus is on quality over hype. We encourage our clients and consignors alike to seek out pieces that embody craftsmanship and refinement — the kind beloved by the “quiet luxury” and “stealth wealth” crowd. For this reason, you may discover designers you’ve never heard of, whose work rivals or surpasses the famous houses, and you’ll notice we discourage items of low quality, even when a well-known label is attached.

You also won’t find fast-fashion looks here, no matter what they’re selling for in the open market. Pink Canary is more refined. We help you shop wisely for timeless pieces, so you can curate a luxurious wardrobe that is uniquely yours.

*Commission Window - means (1)for Your first Commission Window, the period that begins on the date Your first item of Consigned property is Sold and ends at the end of the month that is one year after such date and, (2) for subsequent Commission Windows, the one-year period that begins on the following day after the expiration of the previous Commission Window.  For example, Your first item of Consigned Property sells on June 5, Your First Commission Window begins June 5 and continues until June 3o of the following year, and each of Your Commission Windows thereafter will begin on July 1 and continue until June 30 of the following year.

**Net Sales - means the total amount We received from sales of Your Consigned Property within a Commission Window, less applicable discounts and promotions and excluding taxes.  For example, if You  had three items of Consigned Property that Sold in a Commission Window whose Net Selling Prices were $1500, $55, and $300, Your Net Sales for that Commission Window would be $1855.

***Net Selling Price - means the price at which an item of Consigned Property is Sold, less applicable discounts and promotions and excluding taxes.

****Payments - We process Commission payments on the 15th day of every month for sales of Consigned Property that occurred during the previous month.  For example, payments processed on July 15 would cover the sales period from June 1 through June 30.  Payments will be made to You by direct deposit, in the form of Site credit, or by physical check mailed to you on the 15th of the month or the next business day if it falls on a Sunday or Holiday.

*****Buy Now - Certain items of Property may be eligible upon mutual agreement to be paid out on the spot, whereby you agree to sell and relinquish all right, title, and interest of the items of Property for the agreed upon Buy Now price.

How We Price

We make money when you do, so our goal is to earn you the highest amount possible every time you sell with us.  With that in mind, let's take a look at what determines our prices?

Resale Value

  • Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Loro Piana will always demand more money due to their high-demand year after year.  This includes rare, special edition and vintage items of possibly lesser known brands. Additionally, hottest new item may also be included in high-value due to demand.
  •  There are also items that are what we call "silent luxury" or "stealth wealth" items. These are the brands and names that most consumers have never heard of but the wealthy and those in-the-know, seek out.  They are willing to pay a higher price for these items because of the return on their investment due to the quality of the product.                                                      

Item Condition

At Pink Canary we only except items in Pristine, Excellent and Very Good Condition to ensure you the highest earning and our customers the best quality.

  • Pristine - These are items New-With-Tags, items are new, never-worn, show no signs of being worn, and can include the original box or dust bag.
  • Excellent - These are items that are like new and clearly unused, but the original tags, boxes and/or dust bag may be missing.
  • Very Good - These items show minor signs of wear: handbags might show slight wear on corners or handles and light interior scratches.  Shoes might have light scuffing on the soles.

Market Trends

  • This is where the competitive pricing comes in. We will use real-time information, including competitive analysis and demand cycles to determine the highest price possible for you.
  • Just like when a house is For Sale, a real estate agent will watch the DOM (Days on Market) to receive pricing data as well as market demand, and adjust pricing accordingly, we do the same thing.
  • Ultimately we want to get you the highest price but we also want it to sell for you.  It's a tricky wire we walk but we are kind of geeky that way and are happy to do it for you.

Which brings us Here...What Our Process Looks Like. So let's walk through that now.

The Appointment

While no appointment is necessary for in-store, drop-off consignments; we do require one for our Velvet Glove Service explained in detail here, on our Customer & Consignor Care page.

If you choose our Velvet Glove Service, a Consignment Concierge will visit your home to assist with the consignment process, reviewing the items you wish to consign.  

You may decide to bring your items to our Store, which you may do during business hours, and no later than 1 hour before closing time.  Once there you will receive our in-store Velvet Glove Service.  In The Salon, you and your Consignment Concierge will review your items, choosing which items will be consigned.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Authentication & Verification

Whether you choose in-home or in-store, your Consignment Concierge will document each item with an inventory list and photographs for your and our records.  

Once consignment items have been selected, meet our condition standards of excellence, and you have signed a consignment agreement, we will begin our in-house process of authenticating items.  This is a promise we make to our shoppers and are happy to take the extra steps, time and cost involved.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

 

Pricing

We discussed earlier How We Price.  But there is an exception, and that is when we are consigning high-value items for you.

So what is considered a high-value item?  For this context, we will describe it as any item you choose to consign that will be priced at $999 and above.

For these items, before consigning in our store and online, we will send you pricing to approve.  Once it is approved we will move forward with the consignment of the item.

If however, you do not approve the recommended selling price, you may decline the listing and Pink Canary will return the item to you.

Discounting items:  Because of several factors, 1) the resale market is constantly in flux, 2) we want people to continue looking at your item so that, 3) we sell the item for you and you get paid faster, we do discount items the longer they stay in our store during the six-month consignment period.

However, certain high-demand items are excluded from discounts such as Louis Vuitton handbags.  This is why getting the pricing right from the beginning is so important. 

Ready To Sell

Since Pink Canary is first and foremost a retail store and part of the Slow-Fashion Philosophy we are trying to cultivate, not all items will be put on line.  However, if any items are listed in our online store, this is the time we would photography and list them, before moving them onto the Pink Canary boutique floor for one of our lovely customers to discover.

This is our favorite part of the whole process and the thrill never fades.

Items will be contracted for 6-months, after which time any items that have not sold you will have 30 days to pick up in-store, have donated or request delivery for a small fee or shipping fee, depending on item(s) to return.

You may also elect at this time to have us return your items to you in-house and at the same time review new items for consigning, in which case this falls under our Velvet Glove Service and there is no fee.

Pay Outs

This is everyone's favorite part, and believe it or not, ours too.  Because if we are paying you then that means your item(s) sold which means we both made money.

We pay out the 15th of the following month of your item(s) sale.  You have the choice of direct deposit, paper check mailed to you, or, you may come into our store before the 15th payout and use your commission as Store Credit.
